On the first day 12 candidates file nominations in Meghalaya

Shillong, January 30: On the first day of the filling nominations for the election to the nine Meghalaya Legislative assembly all together twelve candidates fill their monination with different returning officers.

The first candiadate to fill the nomination papers is Mrs Ampareen Lyngdoh ministers of the MUA government urban affairs from the congress party and social welfare minister John Antonio Lyngdoh from the United Democratic Party (UDP), on Wednesday filed their nominations for the 23 February Assembly polls.

Ampareen Lyngdoh was one of the first candidate to file her papers for Shillong East constituency and minster in-charge social welfare, John Antonios Lyngdoh from the United Democratic Party being the second person to filed his nominations here for the Mawphlang constituency here at the Returning Officer’s office.

Moreover, former minister, Pynshai Manik Syiem and his daughter and Member of the District Council, Teilinia Thangkhiew (both independent,) filed their nominations separately for the Mawphlang and Mylliem seats here respectively.

In all, seven candidates filed their nominations from East Khasi Hills district –Ampareen Lyngdoh, JA Lyngdoh, PM Syiem, Teilinia Thangkhiew, Brastone Kharphuli from the UDP for Sohiong constituency, Dr PM Passah from the NPP for North Shillong constituency, Pynehborlang Mukhim from the Congress for Mawryngkneng constituency, Barnabas Nongbah from the Congress from Jirang constituency of Ri-Bhoi district and Bires B Nongsiej from the UDP for Mawkyrwat constituency of South West Khasi Hills district and one each from three constituency – Phulbari, Rajabala and Sesella constituency of West Garo Hills district.(SP News)
