Shillong, May 19: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) today has sent letter to the Chief Minister Mr. Conrad K Sangma demanding to exempt CUET in Meghalaya and remove requirement for CUET for admission into education institution.
The HITO Student’s Wing, are writing to demand the exemption of CUET examinations in Meghalaya and to remove the requirement of CUET for admission into educational institutions. The recent chaos surrounding the CUET examinations has highlighted the inadequacy of the state’s preparation to host these exams.
The state is not fully equipped to conduct the CUET examinations, leading to significant challenges for students, especially those from rural areas with limited financial resources. The lack of infrastructure and examination centres has caused inconvenience and financial burdens to many aspiring students.
They believe that it is unfair to enforce a policy without proper preparation. The recent events have demonstrated that Meghalaya is not yet ready to host the CUET examinations. Despite this, the government has proceeded with the examinations, causing confusion among students and resulting in a waste of time and money.
In the past, the organization has discussed the exemption of CUET examinations with the former Education Minister, Shri LahkmenRymbui, who assured us that the state would be exempted from CUET and that students from Meghalaya would not be required to present CUET marks for admission. We urge your government to honour this commitment.
We are not opposed to the need for CUET for students seeking education outside the state. However, they firmly request that CUET be exempted from educational institutions within Meghalaya.
They also urge the government to issue notifications to schools and colleges across the state, clarifying that students do not need to present CUET marks for admission into local institutions. It is essential to make it clear that only students aspiring to study outside the state are required to take the CUET examinations.
HITO trust that the government will consider our demands and take the necessary steps to exempt Meghalaya from CUET examinations and remove the requirement for CUET marks for admission into local educational institutions, the letter was sign by Donbok Dkhar President and Naaman Khyriem General Secretary Studnt’s Wing.
