Shillong, May 29: The “Scotland of the East”, Shillong will witness a golfing carnival unveiled as the 2nd season of the IGU Eastern India Amateur Golf Feeder Tour is all set to make its mark in the city of Shillong, to be held from 31st May 2019. This is the second occasion the tour comes to one of the picturesque cities of India ‘Shillong”.
The reigning champion Souvik Nayak has committed to play as he will be looking to defend the title. Along with him the young sensation from Kolkata’s Samridh Sen will also start the tournament as one of the favourites.
This year we are going to witness a lot of local golfers like Statesman Cup winner Lakshya Bajaj taking part in “Shillong Amateur”. This event is seen as a platform for the golfers from northeast to enter into Indian golfing Diaspora. A number of local juniors like Thongvanglen Hansing,Sidhant Singhania,Shaurya Goenka,Deep Bajaj,Divyanshi and Srivani Agarwal are also participating.
The practice round is scheduled on Friday, 31st May, while the first round is to be held on Saturday, 1st June. It’s a two-round strokeplay event having five categories; Amateur, Mid- Amateur, Senior, Super-Senior and Ladies.
The event is being hosted by Shillong Club Ltd. (Golf Section) in association with Meghalaya Golf Promoters’ Society (MGPS) – the state association for promotion and development of Golf in Meghalaya.MGPS has been instrumental in bringing Shillong to the Golf Map of India.
