Shillong, July 04: A keenly-contested annual Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA) Declamation Competition was held today, at Headquarters Eastern Air Command, Upper Shillong for the wards of Air Force personnel of Eastern Region.
The winners of the contest Miss Vasundhara and Master Darryl Rafael of Kendriya Vidyalaya Upper Shillong in Hindi and English respectively, will now represent EAC in AFWWA Central Declamation Contest to be held in New Delhi, to commemorate the IAF’s 86th Anniversary.
The contest saw a total of 23 participants from various parts of North East region representing 14 different Air Force Schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas under EAC. The contest was inaugurated by lighting of the traditional lamp by the Chief Guest, Mrs Deepshika Khosla, President AFWWA (Regional) followed by AFWWA song by Air Force Sanginis. A cultural show was also presented by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Upper Shillong.
The jury comprising four eminent personalities, Dr. T Subba (Retd) HoD English, St Anthony’s College, Prof Monotosh Chakravarty, HoD English, St. Edmund’s College, Dr. DK Choubey, HoD Hindi, North East Hill University and Dr. Filmeca Marbaniang, HoD, Hindi, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong judged the competitors in English and Hindi categories.
Contemporary topics of the declamation contest evoked highly charged speeches from the contestants. While giving away prizes to the winners, Mrs Deepshika Khosla expressed her happiness over the standard of public speaking and the competitiveness amongst the participants.
