Shillong Jube 01: The Chief minister Shri. Conrad K. Sangma today attended the felicitation ceremony of the ICSE and ISC Toppers of Pine Mount School.
Speaking on the occasion the chief minister said that students should always have a competitive spirit and a positive outlook in order to succeed not only in academics but also in other areas of life.
Stating that the government puts a priority on the education sector the chief minister said that in spite of the many challenges and the complexity of the issues being faced by the education sector the government is working earnestly to implement programs and policies in order to improve education in the state.
“The government is working hard to come out with the education policy and once that is done we will have a frame work to take education in the state to the next level. We want to ensure that not just the infrastructure but the quality of education should improve and that is one of the core areas that the government is working on”, he added.
Reminding the gathering of the upcoming World Environment Day Celebration on the 5th of June the chief minister urged the students and everyone present to do their bit for a cleaner and greener planet earth.
“It is important that we and especially the younger generation have a sense of ownership, be it our roads, schools, even the trees and greenery around us. When you believe that you own it you respect it and when you respect it you take care of it. And if every citizen in the state starts taking care of things everything will be much more beautiful”, the chief minister concluded.
Shri. D.P. Wahlang, principal secretary in charge of education, was also present in the felicitation function along with the parents of the students, teachers and other officials. The welcome speech was delivered by the principal of the school Smt. A.K.Diengdoh.
