Sohkynduh, Sept 16: The 1st MLA Connect Programme of the 28-Sohra Assembly Constituency was held at Sohkynduh village on 16 September 2026, with the participation of residents from Sohkynduh, Rymmai Mawskhen, and Mawbawein villages.
The programme was chaired by the BDO of Laitkroh C&RD Block, Shri Wankhrawkupar Kharbuli, in the presence of the MLA of the 28-Sohra Assembly Constituency, Shri Gavin Miguel Mylliem; officials from various government departments; Shri Mynjurlang Majaw, Acting Chief of Sohra; village headmen; and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA highlighted the purpose and importance of the MLA Connect Programme, which seeks to strengthen communication and coordination between elected representatives, local communities, and government departments.
He stated that the programme provides an important platform to understand the challenges faced by the people at the grassroots level and to identify appropriate measures for addressing their concerns.
The MLA further emphasised the need for stronger cooperation between the public and government departments so that issues affecting local communities can be brought to the attention of the concerned authorities and the necessary assistance and benefits can reach the people.
During the programme, representatives and residents from the participating villages were given an opportunity to raise issues and highlight their needs. Key concerns included healthcare facilities, the condition of roads and village pathways, inadequate drinking water supply, and frequent power outages in recent times.
The residents stated that these issues have affected their daily lives, mobility, and access to essential services. Representatives of the participating government departments assured the gathering of their commitment to working in coordination with the community and concerned authorities to address the issues raised.
The departments also stated that the concerns would be taken up with the appropriate higher authorities for further necessary action. The 1st MLA Connect Programme served as a platform for meaningful dialogue between the public, the elected representative, and government departments.
The programme aimed to strengthen mutual understanding and coordination while facilitating greater attention to the needs and concerns of the people of the 28-Sohra Assembly Constituency.
