Shillong, August 24: The Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Day 2018 was celebrated at HQ 101 Area at Shillong on 23 Aug 2018 with traditional elan and festivity. The celebrations were spread over a week which included various events for health care and personality development of Army wives.
During the celebration lectures and workshops were organised on “enabling the disabled” in which special emphasis was given to measures to ensure overall development of specially abled children. Other lectures conducted during the week also focussed on women empowerment and creating awareness about various schemes for women.
A central welfare meet was also organised in Happy Valley on 23 Aug 2018 and was chaired by Mrs Pia Ahuja, Zonal President AWWA, HQ 101 Area. During the said meet Mrs Pia Ahuja lauded the efforts of all members and emphasised on the ethos of Sharing & Caring. As a part of women empowerment programme a display on martial arts was also conducted by the trained ladies/ girls during the said function.
In order to pay tribute to our fallen comrades and their families, a Health Camp for Veer Matas and Veer Naris was also organised today at Military Hospital Shillong. The spirit of AWWA enshrined in its Motto of Asha, Wishwas and Aastha was re-affirmed through this programme.
