The 78th Independence Day celebrated gaiety, patriotic fervour in SWGH at Ampati

Ampati, August 15: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with full patriotic fervour and gaiety in South West Garo Hills District headquarter Ampati and all the four blocks of the district  on Thursday.

During the ceremonial celebration at Ampati Students’ Field, Minister for Education, etc, Rakkam A Sangma unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute before 23 parade contingents consisting of Ampati DEF, NCC and Scouts & Guides from various schools of the district.

He also handed over awards and certificates to outstanding employees, athletes and meritorious students and best performing schools of the district. An impressive crowd of nearly 10,000 people attended the celebration.

A colourful cultural program including patriotic and cultural dances by school children and sports & games for children were some of the highlights of the day-long celebration.

Later, the Minister, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, SP, Vikash Kumar and local leaders visited Ampati Civil Hospital and distributed food items to the patients.
