Shillong, April 26: All Jaintia Cricket Association qualified for the Zone 1 final of the Inter District U-19 Boys Cricket Tournament by defeating East Jaintia Hills by nine wickets in Jowai today.
The AJCA thus have 8 points from two games in the three-team Group B. The final will take place on 30 April. The qualifying team from Group A has yet to be decided.
Today EJH won the toss and had a bat first but it was the opposing bowlers who had the better innings, with Saibormiki Passah taking 3/17, Puraki Shadap Passah 3/24 and Chwamiki Ryngkhlem 2/7 in a very economical seven overs. EJH were all out for only 84 in 22.2 overs, with only Nishikania Sinha (34) among the runs.
The AJCA were never really put under pressure in the chase, though they did lose one wicket to Rohit Sharma (1/19). Jeremaia Mukhim and Ryngkhlem finished unbeaten on 44 and 20 respectively to carry their team home. For his bowling, batting and even effecting one run out, Ryngkhlem was named player-of-the-match.
Tomorrow, in Group A of Zone 1, Shillong CA (A) will go up against the B team. SCA (B) currently lead the group standings with 8 points to SCA (A)’s 4. In Zone 2, Tura District CA will face East Garo Hills in Tura.
