Shillong, March 27: The BSF in the joint operation was conducted to curb illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border, resulting in the seizure of unclaimed contraband items worth ₹21,74,400 in the East Khasi Hills district.
Acting on specific intelligence, troops from the 193 Bn BSF collaborated with Customs to establish a Joint Mobile Check Post (MCP) near Sohritcham (Ladbakli).
During routine checks at the MCP, the team intercepted a bus traveling from Shillong to Photkroh, which was found to be loaded with suspicious goods.
As no individual came forward to claim ownership and there were no valid documents or bills of the consignment, the goods were immediately confiscated. The seized items were subsequently handed over to the Customs Office in Dangar for further investigation and legal action.
This successful seizure highlights the ongoing vigilance and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal trade in the region. Authorities remain committed to preventing unlawful activities and maintaining border security.
In another operation based on specific intelligence, BSF Meghalaya rescued 47 cattle near the international borders of SWKH, SGH, and EKH in Meghalaya during the early hours of March 26, 2025. These cattle were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The rescued animals were handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
BSF Meghalaya has heightened its vigilance along the international border in anticipation of Eid-ul-Fitr, as the demand for cattle in Bangladesh peaks before the celebration.
