Shillong, Sept 18: After Lockdown, frequent seizures by the alert BSF troops indicate attempt of smuggling of cattle/FICN/contraband items at International border are on increase. Though desperation on the part of cattle smugglers is seen, as they are making very daring bids to cross over the cattle to Bangladesh but due to alert BSF troops they have not been successful.
Today the vigilant BSF troops deployed at Mobile Check Post on Sonapur Bridge on NH-06 in East Jantia Hills Distt of Meghalaya intercepted cattle loaded Trucks. The BSF troops apprehended 02 Indian national along-with 97 cattle loaded in 03 trucks worth more than Rs. 55 lacs.
These cattle were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. Of late, cattle smugglers of both sides are trying to strengthen and augment their smuggling activities across the Indo- Bangladesh border. Taking a proactive action, BSF troops deployed at border have intensified their vigil to foil nefarious activities of smugglers.
The 444 kms Indo-Bangladesh border with Meghalaya State interspersed with riverine, dense forests and hilly terrain provides ideal conditions for cattle smuggling. The alert BSF troops are devotedly engaged in curbing this menace which post lockdown has suddenly increased in Meghalaya.
The BSF has stepped up its special drive against the illegal intruders and has intensified its operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent nefarious design of trans-border criminals to maintain tranquility in bordering areas of Meghalaya stated Shri U.
