Shillong, April 25: The dormant and subtle talents and potentials of Persons with Disabilities got the boost by leaps and bounds to express themselves with the enactment of “Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016”.
This took a concrete shape when the President of India desired the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India to present the Cultural Events, the first of its kind “Divya Kala Shakti: Witnessing Ability in Disability” on 18th April, 2019 at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, New Delhi.
The programme was graced by the President of India and Ambassadors, High Commissioners besides guests and media persons. The talented Divyangjan children and the youths having physical, visual, hearing or intellectual or multiple disabilities were drawn from across States. This programme is based on the principles of inclusion, non-discrimination, equal participation and recognition to the untiring efforts of parents, teachers and caregivers.
Meghalaya was represented by the Meghalaya Parents Association for Disabled who took nine of its children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and multiple disabilities to perform Shad Suk Mynsiem.
