Shillong, Sept 24: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mr Conrad K Sangma today said in the floor of the house that the Government is committed to implement the project Smart City for Shillong, this come after the opposition seeks the chief minister clarification on this project on the guestion hours raised by the MLA from Mawlai Mr PT Sawkmie.
The Chief Minister said that the State Government is committed to make Shillong one of the 100 smart cities in the country. The government is aware of the problems but will go ahead with the project. Government has done a lot of home work before accepting this project.
The Chief Minister admits that fund is the main problem but the state should not lose this project, the government will find out ways and means of resources to make this project happen in the state of Meghalaya. The talk is on with the government of India to assist the state in this regard.
During question hours the MLA from Mawlai Mr PT Sawkmie want to know if the Government of India has sanction Smarty City for the city of Shillong, where the minister incharge urban affair Mr Hamlet Dohling told the house that, yes the government has sanction smart city for the city of Shillong the sanction was on 20th June 2018.
In his reply to supplementary question, the minister said that the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be constituted by second week of October. On the funding as per guideline is 50% will be borne by the central and 50% will be borne by the state, but, since Meghalaya falls under the special category state the government has asked the central government to borne 90% and the state government 10%, the government is awaiting official confirmation.
Urban affair minister inform the house that the state government is committed to implement the project. The total cost of the smart city project for Meghalaya is Rs.1039 cores. The state Government has already preparer the project into five categories which include haw to tackle traffic congestion in the city.
