Shillong, August 12: The Governor of Meghalaya, Shri. Phagu Chauhan today conferred the Crystal Gayle Memorial Award 2023 to Shri. Ian A Lyngdoh Nongkynrih a versatile, creative and proficient media exponent with profound knowledge on social, cultural and contemporary society in the presence of Shri. Paul Lyngdoh, Meghalaya Arts and Culture Minister who attended the programme as the Guest of Honour.
The award ceremony was organized at Raj Bhavan, Shillong by the Riti Academy of Visual Arts in commemoration of the sixth death anniversary of theatre artiste Crystal Gayle Kharnaior.
Addressing the gathering the Hon’ble Governorlauded Riti Academy of Visual Arts for theirrelentless efforts in providing congenial space for the art fraternity to meaningfully work and realize its potential and vision.
Stressing on the importance and scope of visual arts to connect audiences with their roots and creative expressions, he reiterated the need for professional and educational institutions to make untiring efforts for the continuous development of visual arts in the state.
Adding that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is always advocating local for global and is laying great emphasis on the development of folk cultures of the North East, the Hon’ble Governor said that the involvement of local stake holders in the educational and business sector is essential in creating art and cultural institutions that emphasize the folk culture of the region.
This year’s recipient of the Crystal Gayle Memorial Award, Ian A Lyngdoh Nongkynrih was an ardent administrator and an avid professional in the media corporate establishments, with remarkable footprints on Doordarshan, Red FM Radio and other prestigious media institutions.
Among the various innovative and original conceptualizations and productions by Ian A Lyngdoh Nongkynrih, the book Ficus Khasiana, Finding the Living Root Bridges and the television programme ‘A Day in the Village’ are considered meritorious and commendable.
Others present on the occasion were Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari, Director of Riti Academy, Shri. Raphael Warjri, eminent artist of the State and officers and staff of Raj Bhavan.
