Shillong, Nov 16: A joint cycling expedition from Jashore (Bangladesh) to Kolkata (India) is being organised by Indian and Bangladesh Armies to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh Liberation War 1971.
Today they also pay tribute to the valour and courage of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the war leading to the landslide victory and creation of a new nation ‘Bangladesh’,.
The team comprising of 20 cyclists each from Indian and Bangladesh Armies was flagged off by Major General Mohd Nurul Anwar, GOC 55 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army on 15 Nov 2021 from Jashore.
The expedition will cover a distance of 370 km over a span of 10 days via Jashore, Jhenaidah, Kushtia, Meherpur, Darshana, Chuadanga in Bangladesh and Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Kalyani, Barrackpore, Kolkata in India. The expedition will culminate at Fort William, Kolkata on 24 Nov 21.
During the journey the team will interact with Veterans and Veer Naris in India and will also connect with Mukti Jodhas in Bangladesh. The joint expedition will create awareness about contribution of armed forces in the Liberation of Bangladesh. The expedition will further connect with youth and motivate them to join armed forces.
