The JSU write to the Chief Minister raising concern on the Khasi Pnar living in Block-I

Shillong, August 03: The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) today write to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mr. Conrad K Sangma raising concern on the Khasi Pnar living in Block-I for their safety and security from the Karbi people in the ongoing disputed area. It’s essential to ensure the safety and rights of all Indian citizens.

The JSU hope that the State Government will take necessary measures and initiate talks with the Assam Government to address this situation and ensure the safety of the affected community. They would like to suggest few points and measures can be taken to ensure the safety of the Khasi Jaintia people who lives in Block 1 area.

Dialogue and Negotiation, Initiating talks between the State Government and Assam Government to address the issue and find a peaceful resolution to the dispute can be helpful.

Investigation and Prosecution and to  identifying and apprehending members of the unknown group responsible for the threats and violence, and ensuring they face legal consequences his will send a message that such actions won’t be tolerated.

Human Rights Protection, Ensuring that the fundamental rights of the Khasi Jaintia people are respected and protected, regardless of their location, is vital.  Establishing Safe Spaces, Creating safe zones or community centres can provide a refuge for those feeling threatened and facilitate communication with relevant authorities.
