Shillong, Oct 19: The General Secretary of the Khasi Student Union, Mr. Donal V Thabah has written letter to Mr. Pu VL Tana President, MZP and Mr Pu Lalnunmawia Pautu General Secretary, MZP, expressing its solidarity with the tribal Mizo brothers and sisters who are suffering along the border of Mizoram-Assam due to the recent clashes which left scores of innocent Mizos injured with some receiving grievous wounds.
The letter said that, The Khasi Students’ Union, a students body representing the Khasi community with its headquarter in Shillong, express its solidarity with the tribal Mizo brothers and sisters who are suffering along the border of Mizoram-Assam due to the recent clashes which left scores of innocent Mizos injured with some receiving grievous wounds.
The KSU general secretary in the letter said that, as per the media reports, it was learnt that illegal immigrants mostly Bengalis came in droves armed with machetes, logs, iron rods, etc from Assam, cross over to Mizoram side and start assaulting Mizo villagers without any provocation. Such is the mentality of the illegal immigrants that their objective is to forcibly snatch away tribal lands in Mizoram and other NE states including Meghalaya.
In Meghalaya the movement against influx has been going on for 4 decades since the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 which brought a huge number of refugees and opportunist migrants into the state rendering the indigenous Khasi as minorities in Shillong city. This led to a series of agitations whereby countless loss their precious lives.
Through this letter, the KSU extends its full support to the Mizo people and especially the Mizo Zirlai Pawl, who are associates in the North East Students’ Organization. The KSU hopes that no matter what it takes, Mizos will defend their territory tooth and nail so as to protect their land and borders for the overall well being of their people.
The KSU will always stands with their indigenous brethens who are bearing the brunt of illegal immigration like the Mizos, Assamese, Garos, Karbis, Bodos and Tripuris. Said Mr. Donal V Thabah General Secretary Khasi Students’ Union in the press statement issued today to the media.
