Shillong, August 23: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment reviewed the status of Crime against Women and Children in East Jaiñtia Hills and West Jaiñtia Hills districts on the 21st of August, 2023 and 22nd of August 2023 respectively.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Smti Santa Mary Shylla, chaired the meetings along with members of the Committee, including Smti Miani D Shira MLA, Shri Adelbert Nongrum MLA, Shri Gabriel Wahlang MLA, Shri Marthon J. Sangma MLA and Shri Mathew B. Kurbah MLA.
After the two-day review of crimes against women and children in Jaintia Hills, the Committee Chairperson emphasized the significance of speedy justice delivery, particularly in POCSO cases.
She stated that she has directed district authorities to ensure that the victims receive the necessary care throughout the entire process. Shylla said that the Committee will follow up on the cases and hold similar meetings in all districts of the state.
The meeting at East Jaintia Hills was held at the DC’s office, Khliehriat. Shri Abhilash Baranwal IAS Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, Shri Banraplang Jyrwa, MPS Addl. SP, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat, and other officials of the district were in attendance.
The meeting at West Jaintia Hills was held at Jowai. Shri B.S Sohliya, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of WJH, Shri Chemphang Syrti, MPS, SP, WJH, Smti. C.W. Lyngdoh, MPS, Dy. SP (HQ), WJH, and other officials of the district attended the meet, the Committee also inspected the one stop centre at Khliehriat on Monday.
