Shillong, July 7: The MePDCL in collaboration with the district administration organized anawareness and live demonstration program for the Govt. officials on smart meters, a joint initiative of the Govt. of India and the Govt. of Meghalaya, at DRDA Hall on 6 July.
During the program the MePDCL officials informed that installation of smart meters in other districts of Garo Hills has already started and the same will also be done in West Garo Hill and expecting the installation to be completed either by November or December this.
It was also informed that 40,000 smart meters will be installed free of cost in the district in the first phase and there will be no charges for the smart meters for five years. According to the SGIL officials, the smart meters with in-built GPRS, has the online bill payment facility through mobile app. The officials also informed that so far 44,000 smart meters have been installed in Meghalaya.
