Shillong, Nov 23: The Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) today called for an immediate free and fair investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Assam Police Firing at Mukhroh Village in West Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya that took place yesterday the 22nd November 2022 where six persons were killed, five from Meghalaya, and two others who were seriously injured.
“We strongly denounce this worrying rise and repeated gross abuses of human rights committed by these law enforcement officials and violating the right to life of those innocent souls who had to pay the price with their precious lives at the highhandedness and incompetent police force of the Assam Government” said Dino DG. Dympep, Chairman MPHRC.
“With much anguish and sorrow, we strongly condemn the Assam Police and the Forest Guards for entering Meghalaya and resorting to the use of disproportionate force and indiscriminate firings, a clear gross violation of human rights” said MPHRC.
“While offering our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishing for a speedy recovery to those wounded at this unfortunate firing, we strongly urge the Assam Government to own this moral responsibility and to book those Police force involved for the use of disproportionate force and indiscriminate firing under the basic tenet of law” said MPHRC.
