Shillong, Sept 25: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with Meghalaya AIDS Control Society organized a webinar on State Consultation on Legal Protection for People Living With HIV (PLHIVS), Children Affected By HIV and AIDS (CABA), and Most At Risk Populations (MARPS). The webinar was attended by 28 participants.
The Webinar was chaired by Shri. N.A.Khan, Member Secretary of the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority where he briefly discussed on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Act 2017.
Dr (Mrs) R. Allya, Project Director, Meghalaya AIDS Control Society shared her experience and findings on behalf of Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, which was followed by a keynote address by Dr. Rajesh Rana, National Consultant (IEC- Mainstreaming), National AIDS Control Organization.
Smt. Garima Sharma, Consultant (IEC) National AIDS Control Organization, New Delhi deliberated on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Act 2017, including a session on Legal Protection of People Living With HIV (PLHIVs), Children Affected By HIV and AIDS (CABA) & Most At Risk Populations (MARPS). There was also an experience – sharing including challenges faced by people from the community, such as, Injecting Drug Users & People Living With HIV.
Smt. Swapna Ghosh Neogi, Advocate, Shillong Bar Association spoke on Legal implications and ways to establish better linkages with Legal Services for better access.The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Smt. Christine E. Marbaniang, Assistant Director (SP&M) Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, and Smt. N.M. Momin, Officer on Special Duty, Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.
