Maligaon, Sept 02: The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway Shri Sanjive Roy along with senior officials including the Divisional Railway Manager of Alipurduar Division Shri K. S. Jain interacted with Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies whose constituencies are served by Alipurduar Division at a meeting organized at Divisional Headquarters in Alipurduar today.
The meeting was organized to showcase and apprise the people’s representatives of the developmental activities undertaken by Railways and to solicit their opinion and suggestions on future course of action to make railway more user-friendly.
The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Shri Nisith Pramanik, Member of Parliament Lok Sabha Shri John Barla, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Dr Jayanta Kumar Roy, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha Shri Biswajit Daimary and MLA Shri Manoj Tigga.
Delivering welcome address, Divisional Railway Manager Shri K S Jain highlighted the efforts of the division to increase efficiency and safety in the railway operations. He said, because of relentless efforts, as many as 136 elephants could be saved from becoming victim of accidents in various locations in the division in last one year.
The General Manager Shri Sanjive Roy said that Railway is continuously thriving to provide better services to the public. He said punctuality of passenger carrying trains have greatly improved and 92% of the trains in N. F. Railway ran on time during last month. He said that Railway Electrification would be completed up to New Jalpaiguri in a couple of months and then electrified route will be extended up to Guwahati within March next year. Shri Roy also said, while 202 stations in NF Railway have been provided with free WiFi facility, stations are also being provided lifts & escalators.
Elaborating various activities undertaken by the division, senior officials said that steps are being taken to eliminate Level Crossing gates by constructing road overbridges and underbridges at various locations. The elected representatives also put forward various suggestions for introduction of new trains, additional stoppages of existing trains and improving other passenger amenities which the GM had assured to implement wherever feasible.
The GM had also assured that railway is actively considering suggestion for shifting railway siding at Dalgaon to Mujnai. Indian Railway has made such meetings a regular exercise to ensure that the aspirations of the people are fulfilled adequately.
