The Orchidarium at IBSD Upper Shillong, 6th Mile, reopened for the general public

Shillong, Feb 26: The Orchidarium at IBSD Upper Shillong, 6th Mile, has been reopened for the general public and tourists. The reopening of the Orchidarium has been kickstarted with an Orchids and Flower exhibition that was inaugurated by Shri P. Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary to Govt of Meghalaya and CEO, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA).

The inauguration  late yesterday is done in the presence of Prof Pulok K Mukherjee, Director IBSD, Dr AS Suting, OSD, BRDC and the scientists and staff of IBSD, BRDC and BSI, and the floriculture farmers of Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi who have been provided a platform for exhibiting their tradable orchids. The orchidarium is now full of Cymbidiums in full bloom, along with the native orchids and other seasonal flowers.

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), is an autonomous Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India, with head office at Imphal with a node at Upper Shillong, that has R&D facilities and an Orchidarium and Orchid Production Units. The Orchidarium is reopening after almost a year as it had been closed during March 2020 due to Covid-19.
