Shillong June 29: A delegation from the Pynthorumkhrah Flood Control Committee today met the Water Resources Minister Mr Brolding Nongsiej to submit memorandum on the flood that coucred evry year during summer season in Pynthorumkhrah at its sourding.
A delegation from the Pynthorumkhrah Flood Control Committee led by local MDC PN Syiem met Water Resources minister, Brolding Nongsiej on Monday to discuss on the flood that occurred every summer in the area of Pynthorumkhrah.
Talking to Media after meeting the Minister the Local MDC Mr PN Syiem said that the heavy downpour during summers and even winter rains that last for 15-20 minutes are a risk to the residents in Langkyrding, Nongmynsong, Pynthor.
Residents are also forced to leave their homes even at 1 am to flee from any impending danger due to the heavy rain and this constant flood is very dangerous. In the meeting the Minister informed the delegation that a scheme imitated by the government from the Ministry of Water Resources called the Pynthorumkhrah Flood Control Protection Project
However, the guidelines of the Ministry require huge land and are currently examining the scheme. There is also the river rejuvenation committee as directed by the NGT constituted for Wahumkhrah and Umshyrpi.
The Local MDC Mr PN Syiem said that the minister was suggested to convene a meeting of the committee so that departments will give their advice and it will be in a holistic approach.
