Maligaon, Jan 09: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N. F. Railway recovered contraband/smuggled goods worth more than Rs. 01 crore during last few days. The articles include 0.990 kgs of heroin worth Rs. 99 lakh recovered at New Jalpaiguri station and 21 kgs of ganja worth Rs. 2.10 lakh recovered at Agartala station.
In an incident on 05.01.2022, acting on information received from Central Intelligence Agency regarding presence of a drug trafficker at New Jalpaiguri railway station area and possibility of carrying the narcotic drugs by train, a joint team of RPF Post at New Jalpaiguri and officials of the Agency, conducted vigorous check over the platforms of New Jalpaiguri railway station.
During the check/drive at Platform No. 2, they apprehended one person namely, Samsul Shaikh, 25 years, resident of Baranaldaha, PS: Palasipara, Dist. Nadia West Bengal, with a black colour synthetic leather bag. On being questioned, he gave misleading reply, which created more doubt upon him.
As such, he was brought to RPF Booth, New Jalpaiguri for further interrogation. On checking his leather bag, a packet of heroin, wrapped with cello tape, weighing 0.990 kgs was found.
On searching the person, one Aadhaar card, one PAN card, one mobile and cash Rs. 4,765/- were also found/recovered. The recovered heroin was seized in presence of ASC/New Jalpaiguri and the person was taken into custody.
Later, the arrested person along with the recovered/seized articles was handed over to OC/GRP/New Jalpaiguri for further course of action. Value of the recovered/seized heroin is Rs. 99 lakhs (approx).
Again on 06.01.2022, RPF of Agartala conducted checking at Agartala railway station and recovered 02 unclaimed bags containing 04 packets ganja, weighing about 21 kgs on platform No. 1. The recovered Ganja packets were seized handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further necessary action. Value of the recovered Ganja is Rs. 2.10 lakh.
