Shillong, May 06: The Khasi Students Union Delhi Unit has sent a complaint leter to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mr Conrad K Sangma demanding that the state Government should take disciplinary action against the Residence Commissioner of Meghalaya House Delhi for refusing of entry to Meghalaya House for victim of harassment.
The complaint letter sent by the KSU Delhi Unit to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to draw the attention the partial and unprofessional attitude of the Resident commissioner here in Meghalaya House, New Delhi.
In the light of the recent incident in Meghalaya House , we would like to bring to your notice that a girl name withheld, 26 years of age from Meghalaya who complained of harassment and mentally tortured by her employer in Gurugram, Haryana had also put a complaint recently to the Special branch in Meghalaya.
That is on the 03/May/2020, in which they have forwarded the instructions to the Haryana Police to rescue her and after getting the medical checkup done and clear, she will be accommodated to Meghalaya House for her safety as the victim is already in a traumatized situation and cannot think of any other place to stay other than the Meghalaya House.
The girl along with the police official from Haryana and also the NEAT team in Delhi who intercept them at the border has escorted her along to Meghalaya House, Abdul Kalam Road initially and to Meghalaya House, Vasant Vihar on the 04/May/2020.
However, after reaching the gate of both the Meghalaya House in New Delhi and waiting hours for it to be opened, sadly there is none from the officials who gave any response to them.
Neither the Meghalaya House Assistant Resident Commissioner inform the girl nor giving them any earlier instructions not to come or whether they will provide accommodation or not but instead remaining a spectator and did not want to take the responsibility even after getting prior information to reach out officially to this female victim who already had to face such tragic incidents in both ends.
She was denied accommodation even after the phone call request from the Union and was told to send her to the Quarantine Center instead in which the member of the Union who spoke to the official have also enlighten that she is not a Covid patient but a victim of harassment case.
The KSU said that if not in Meghalaya House then she needs to be sent to the women’s shelter home but at the end of the day, she had to return back to Haryana along with the police officials because the Meghalaya House which is meant for the Meghalaya people in the Capital did not cater the needs or have any empathy towards such victims.
This is not the first cases that such situation arises as even in the earlier cases, the Union had to bring such issues to the Chief Minister’s Office. Also, at the same time, the Union appreciates the officials from the Meghalaya House in Kolkata on the recent similar case as they took a step further to reach out to the female victim by themselves and then later provided her shelter and security.
On behalf of the victim in Gurugram, Haryana; The Union urged your esteemed office to take a disciplinary action against such officials who did not step up to take the responsibility in performing their duties and the lack of empathy towards such victims.
To ensure that our people who are stranded outside the state and who are facing a day to day problems and harassment especially after the outbreak of this Pandemic disease will be given priority to be heard.
To open the Meghalaya House in these metropolitan cities to victims from the state who face such difficulties in these testing times and who are in dire need of a place to stay especially during this period. Said Marbiang Khongwir in the complaint letter sent to the Chief Minister from the KSU Delhi Unit.
