Maligaon, March 04: While performing duty at the Guwahati station on 3rd March, 2020 RPF Head Constable Ajay Nag and Constable Debabrata Saikia received information from reliable sources about unclaimed cash and valuables in the parcel siding area.
On receiving the information at about 6-00 am in the morning, they immediately started checking the parcel siding area and detected 10 poly bag bundles without railway mark. Enquiry was made in the parcel office about the polybags, but no details were found.
After that they informed the Inspector RPF of Guwahati and the bags were brought the RPF post. After getting necessary approval from the concerned departments all the bags were opened by keeping independent witness of staff and officer. Entire procedure was also video graphed.
Later the inventory was listed and it was found that the bags contained Rs. 4,84,000/- in currency notes, Rs. 4,900/- in coins, 31 pairs of gold bangles, 5.10 kg silver along with other items.
After completion of the inventory record, all the items were segregated and kept in the safe custody of RPF post by providing proper seal in presence of witness for further action as per norms.
It may be mentioned here that RPF of Northeast Frontier Railway has been successfully recovering such items during routine checking and raids. During the year 2019, RPF successfully recovered items worth Rs. 6.1 crs from various stations within its jurisdiction.
