Maligaon, Feb 18: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway on getting information raided two shops, agencies in two different locations during last few days to check illegal sale of railway tickets. RPF recovered 50 railway e-tickets worth more than Rs. 91 thousand during 14th and 15th February, 2022 during the drive.
One tout managed to escape and the other two touts were apprehended. The apprehended persons were prosecuted under section 143 of the Railways Act. In the incident on 14.02.2022, Inspector,CIB, New Jalpaiguri of RPF conducted a decoy check on the basis of a written complaint regarding touting activities in a shop, agency named “Maa Tara Tour and Travels”, situated at Daspara.
On the basis of the above complaint, Inspector,RPF, Kishanganj registered a case under section 143 of Railways Act. SI, RPF along with staff conducted the raid & search in the above shop under the supervision of Inspector,CIB, New Jalpaiguri.
During the course of raid, they recovered 03 live e-Tickets, worth Rs. 4,319.00 (approx) and 21 past e-Tickets, worth Rs. 76,486.00 (approx). Electronic items, records & cash of Rs. 2,500.00 were also seized during the raid. But the shop owner managed to run away. Efforts are being made to nab the absconding shop owner.
In the other incident on 15.02.2022, information was received regarding touting activities by one shop namely, “N. A. Telecom”, located at Station road, Ranipatra, Purnea (Bihar). RPF staff of Purnea with the assistance of local police conducted the raid in the said shop.
During the raid they recovered 02 live Railway e-tickets worth Rs. 264.00 (approx) and 24 past e-tickets worth Rs. 10,426.00 (approx) which were generated illegally by using personal user IDs. Electronic items and cash of Rs. 2000.00 were also seized and two persons were taken into custody.
The RPF of NFR regular conducts checks & drives to prevent illegal selling of Railway tickets. Supplying or procuring railway ticket illegally is a punishable offence under section 143 of the Railways Act.
