Maligaon, May 18: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N.F. Railway, while conducting routine checkingat New Jalpaiguri railway station recovered 10 no’s of live endangered species of turtles which were being transported illegally.
On 17th May, 2024, RPF team of New Jalpaiguri conducted a routine check in train no. 12507 (Thiruvananthapuram Central – Silchar) Aronai Express at New Jalpaiguri station. During the checking, a blue colour container was detected in coach no S-12 by the RPF team.
On searching for the owner of the container it was found unclaimed.After opening the container,theRPF team detected 10 no’s of liveendangered species of turtles.
Afterwards, the container with the live turtles was brought to the RPF station. Later, the live turtles were handed over to the West Bengal Forest Department after completingall the legal formalities and documentation.
