Maligaon, Sept 23: Stepping up its drives against smuggling of contraband through Railways, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of N.F. Railway have recovered various contraband items like cannabis, foreign cigarettes and whisky worth about Rs. 7.42 lakh during the period from 2nd to 22nd September, 2019.
The contraband was recovered during regular checks and special drives at various stations and trains over N.F. Railway. The RPF personnel successfully apprehended one person involved in trafficking contraband liquor at Katihar railway station on September 16, 2019.
During the same period, RPF personnel have successfully apprehended 4 persons on charges of theft of passenger’s belongings and recovered 12 mobile phones from their possession from Kamakhya and Katihar railway stations.
The RPF has also recovered sedative drugs contained 16 Ativan tablets in 1 strip, 20 loose tablets and powder of sedative tablets in a small polythene bundle from one of the apprehended persons from Kamakhya Railway station.
Acting on information on September 7, 2019, RPF conducted raid at ‘Digital World’ situated at Nishiganj, Coochbehar West Bengal and apprehended 1 person involved in touting activities.
In another such incident a joint team of RPF comprising Inspector along with others RPF team including from Crime Investigation Branch of Alipurduar conducted raid at ‘Ali Mobile Shop’ located at Sonari Bazar, Coochbehar West Bengal.
In this raid RPF have apprehended one person involved in touting activities with the recovery of five electronic reservation slips of different trains and dates, one gmail screen shot print out of PNR, one computer monitor, one CPU, one Airtel broadband for internet purpose, one personal diary, one cash memo book, one blank cheque book along with passbook, one mobile phone and cash Rs. 3160/-. Value of the recover tickets was 4515/-.
Moreover, the RPF has also conducted checking against human trafficker at New Bongaigaon Railway station and apprehended one woman involved in child trafficking. During the period, RPF has rescued 85 children from different stations over N.F. Railway and handed them over to their respective parents, NGOs or State police.
