Shillong, June 21: The Shillong College NCC units of 2 MEGH BN NCC and 61 MEGH BN NCC observed the 7th International Yoga Day 2021 on a virtual platform despite the pandemic on the 21st June 2021 via Google meet.
The meeting was attended by the NCC cadets as well as the teaching staff of the college, the College Principal Dr(Mrs) E. Kharkongor, students from the college as well as other invitees. The theme that the AYUSH Ministry has given this year for the International Yoga Day was “Be with Yoga, be at home.”
The event started with the welcome speech given by Capt. B. P. Tripathi, ANO, which was followed by the speech of the college Principal, Dr (Mrs) E Kharkongor, on the importance of yoga. She mentioned that Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian thought, we must try to nurture and nourish it for the overall well-being of the whole mankind.
We had two esteemed and familiar guests joining the programme, two active Yogi Instructors from Gayatri Pariwar in Haridwar, Shri Shailesh Kumar Gaur and his colleague Shri.Rahul Kumar had been with the college since the first observation of the International Yoga Day which was observed on 21st June 2015.
They are devoted to reaching Vedic and Yogic knowledge to everyone as far as practicable. Shri Shailesh is also a recognised Acupuncture instructor and Shri Rahul is associated with the AYUSH Ministry, Government of India.
The cadets as well as teachers and students all took active part in the yoga lessons and demonstrations given at the platform by Shri Rahul Kaur. Yogi Shailesh also stressed the importance of Yoga in relieving stress in today’s strenuous world and how Yoga is one of the key measures of defence against this COVID 19 pandemic which is ongoing at high rates in the country.
Yogi Shailesh made all the people attending the programme take an oath of giving our bodies at least 15 minutes daily of our time to care for it and also gave the gathering a question and answer round.
Mr. Yogi received questions from the cadets as well as from the teachers to which he gave a quick response and as always extended his ever ready help to the cadets and teachers stating that if anyone ever needed consultation he’s ready to help as his aim is to spread Yogic knowledge to as far as practicable.
The event concluded with the presentation of videos and pictures of the cadets performing Yoga in their homes staying safe but with yoga in their homes as well staying true to the theme of “Be with Yoga, be at home” which was followed by the vote of thanks given by the CTO of the 61 MEGH BN NCC Girls Shillong College, madam Batriti Nongbri.
