The Shillong Traffic Police detected 1,788 cases against the use of black films in Vehicles

Shillong, Sept 06: The Shillong Traffice Police has detected 1,788 cases of vehicles that used black films, the police has conducted checking in according of  Supreme Court of India vide judgement on Writ Petition (Civil) No. 265 of 2011 has prohibited the use of black films of any percentage Visual Light Transmission (VLT) on the safety glasses, windscreens (front and rear) and side glasses.

Therefore, in order to uphold the direction of the apex court, the Shillong Traffic  Police (STP) has been conducting vigorous checking against the use of black films and thus, detected 1,788 cases realising fine amount of Rs. 13,35,000/- with effect from 1″ July, 2024 – 6h September, 2024, furthermore,  the black films of such detected vehicles were removed following the fine imposed upon them.

In light of the above, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) would like to appeal to all vehicle owners to refrain from using the black films on the safety glasses, wind screens and side glasses of their vehicle and if so, to kindly remove the same. The drive against the use of black films including other MV Act violations shall continue and stringent action will be taken against violators.
