Mairang, August 14: As part of the ongoing observance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav-India @75, a skit depicting the freedom struggle of Khasi patriot, U Tirot Sing Syiem was performed by Seng Biria Dei Por (SBDP) at Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission.
The program organised by the Office of the District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Mairang Civil Sub-Division and the District Sports Promotion Society, West Khasi Hills District.
The programme was attended by the Syiem of HimaNongkhlaw, Pa’iem P.M Syiemlieh as Chief Guest in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Mairang Civil Sub-Division.
Mr. A. Nongbri, Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD Block, Shri V. Swer, District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills District, Shri P.B Nongbri, SyiemKhynnah of HimaNongkhlaw, Shri K. M Syiemlieh, Headmen of the area and others.
In his brief address, the Syiem of HimaNongkhlaw, Pa’iem P.M Syiemlieh stated that the celebration of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav provides an opportunity for the Country to honourits freedom fighters of which includes U Tirot Sing Syiem whose act of valour and sacrifice in the freedom struggle against the Britishersand whose affection for his land and its people continue to inspire generations.
He also expressed hope that the celebration encourages the citizens to emulate the life and teachings of U Tirot Sing Syiem and the other freedom fighters of the Country who have fought and lost their livesin the questto free it from foreign rule
