The Vice-Chancellor NEHU meets HC for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to New Delhi

Shillong,June In a move to strengthen NEHU’s international ties with universities and institutes abroad, NEHU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla today had a meeting with the High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to New Delhi, India, His Dr. Roger Gopaul in the premises of High Commission of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, New Delhi.

The High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago welcomed Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla to his office premises to discuss in details on future collaborations between NEHU and Universities in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago.

The High Commissioner elaborated on how the ties between India and Trinidad & Tobago have been strengthening over the years with different collaborations. He in particular mentioned about the cultural similarities between India and Trinidad & Tobago with more than 6 lakhs of people being of Indian origin.

He also spoke about the Government of Trinidad and Tobago being very interested and keen on signing MoUs with the Indian universities in the field of agriculture, food technology, physical sciences, life sciences, technological sciences, humanities, social sciences and cultural sciences.

He showed keen interest on the North-East India particularly towards the state of Meghalaya. He mentioned how the recent developments in North-Eastern Hill University which included the visits from different foreign embassies including US, Thailand, Korea, Japan and France had caught his attention.

He informed the Vice- Chancellor about the possibility of collaborations between NEHU and the universities in Trinidad and Tobago and how it can mutually benefit both NEHU and the Universities of the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. The High Commissioner also showed keen interest on visiting the campus of North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong sometime in the month of August.

In response to the encouraging words received from the High Commissioner, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed His Excellency to visit NEHU on the Independence Day as a special guest, to which the High Commissioner agreed to. Prof. Shukla gave a detailed presentation of the location of the North-East India and in particular the State of Meghalaya.

He also mentioned about the culture and people of Meghalaya to the Commissioner. The commissioner was amazed to know about the culture, society and people of Meghalaya.  Prof. Shukla also mentioned how the North-Eastern Hill University is progressing towards collaborations and MoUs with the foreign Universities.

Institutes in the field of Cultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Physical and Life Sciences, Agriculture, Food Technology, Bio-informatics and Nanosciences. He exhorted on how NEHU is in a position to conduct research works in different fields of studies and that the it will be looking forward to collaborating with Universities of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Besides discussing about the future collaborations, Prof Shukla also mentioned that to ease the work and procedure of collaborating with foreign universities and institutes, NEHU had recently opened the Office of International Affairs under the leadership of Prof. Prasenjit Biswas who along with his team has been working tirelessly to make the collaborations and signing of different MoUs with foreign universities a smooth affair.

He also mentioned that NEHU also has an MoU committee headed by its Chairman, Prof. Anand S Dixit, which looks after the legalities of the MoUs so that both the parties are benefitted.
