Shillong, April 28: Uber today launched its Moto service in Shillong, which will offer riders a convenient and affordable two-wheeler mobility solution to move around the city. The launch reaffirms the company’s commitment to the region and highlights Uber Moto as a key growth driver as part of its ‘India to Bharat’ strategy to further increase its national footprint.
The Secretary and Commissioner, Transport, Shri M.R. Synrem, felicitated women drivers who have signed up for the new service. All women drivers also received tokens of appreciation from Uber representatives. As part of Uber’s commitment to road safety, helmets were also distributed to the bike taxi operators.
Commenting on the product launch, Md. Ali Armanur Rahman, Head – East India and Bangladesh, Uber, said, “We’re thrilled to launch our much-loved Moto product in Shillong, and are excited to offer convenient and affordable transportation options to city commuters.
They received an overwhelming response for onboarding drivers in the city, especially women drivers who have signed up to drive Uber Moto. We would like to express our gratitude to the state’s transport commissioner for his encouragement and being present today for the launch, encouraging more female drivers to explore economic opportunities through the Uber platform.”
The launch of Uber Moto in Shillong will benefit both riders and drivers. While riders will now have an affordable and convenient transport option that will enhance first and last-mile connectivity, drivers will have a viable opportunity to earn their livelihood with the flexibility that the Uber platform offers.
