New Delhi, Feb 10: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Chief Minister expressed that the Union Home Minister gave a patient hearing to the issues and concerns brought forward by him and the Deputy CM.
“Discussions on the issues around the Meghalaya Residents’ Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) were taken up to which the Hon’ble Home Minister suggested that the State Government and officials of MHA must further discuss the issues of MRSSA and urged them to find an amicable way forward for the same,” said Chief Minister in a video message released by the CMO.
The Chief Minister reminded Amit Shah about the organizations from Meghalaya who wanted to meet him during his recent visit to Shillong but were unable to do so due to time constraint.
“Home Minister had suggested that they should come to the Parliament to discuss the same. In the meantime, HM had decided to make a two-day visit to Shillong to discuss on the revamping of the NEC and has suggested that he will make time to meet the organisations during his two-day stay in Shillong which will happen in the month of March, 2021,” the Chief Minister added.
In the meeting, Amit Shah also raised the issue of infiltration, which the Chief Minister said, “(infiltration) is an issue of concern not only in Meghalaya but also the North East and the whole country”.
Chief Minister informed that the Union Home Minister has assured that he will do everything possible to ensure that the culture, identity and language of the people of Meghalaya and the North East is safeguarded at all costs.
“HM also stated that the issues of border fencing need to be resolved and expedited. He (Amit Shah) mentioned that there are some sections in which the construction has not started yet due to local issues and he has urged the State Government to hold talks with stakeholders and ensure all the concerns are addressed and start the work at the earliest.”
