Mawkyrwat, May 27:Shri. Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Steel and Heavy Industries, Government of India, visited South West Khasi Hills District today, 27th May, 2026.
He was accompanied by Smt. Aitinolin L. Mawlong, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District, Shri B. Jyrwa, MPS, Superintendent of Police, South West Khasi Hills District, Shri F.B. Basan, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District along with other district officials.
During his visit, the Minister visited the Civil Hospital, where he distributed Ayushman Bharat Cards to 20 beneficiaries. He also inspected the Natural Farming activities under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) at Wahsiej, interacted with children and Anganwadi workers at Mawlangwir, and visited the Mawranglang Viewpoint.
The Minister further inaugurated and handover the house key to the owner of PMAY – G House at Mawlangwir and also visit a Footbridge and Water Tank-cum-Washing Platform at Mawpon, where he participated in a tree plantation programme.
Later, Shri. Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma chaired a review meeting with District Heads at the Conference Hall, Circuit House, Laitlawsang, Mawkyrwat, to assess the implementation of various Central Government schemes and State Schemes and flagship programmes in the district.
During the review meeting, the Minister discussed the progress and implementation of schemes such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Health Programmes, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and other welfare schemes in the district.
He also interacted with district officials regarding the issues and challenges faced during the implementation of these programmes.
The Minister expressed satisfaction over the district’s performance and appreciated the efforts of the district administration in ensuring effective implementation of government schemes despite various constraints and challenges. He further encouraged the officials to continue dedicating their services towards the progress and overall development of the district.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri. F.B. Basan, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District.
