Shillong, April 07: Wild fire that started on Sunday night which continued till today has destroyed hundreds of cultivation crops in Shella Area bordering with Bangladesh under East Khasi Hills. The affected crops mainly included Aeronaut, Orange trees and others crops where thousands of hectares of cultivated land affected and great lost to the farmers of the area.
The Vice President of Hills Farmer Union (HFU) Mar Prince Starwell Sorubai told SP News Agency that wild fire broke up on Sunday night and continued even today where hundreds of cultivable crops were damage in this incident, the area that were affected in this wild fire are Byrwa Rikom Umkon and adjoining area.
The crops that were badly affected are Aeronaut, Orange trees, Bay leave trees, Banana Tress to name a few. The Vice President of the HFU informs that even today the wild fire that broke up on Sunday still continued. Thousand of hectares’ of cultivation land is affected.
The areas fall under Shella Bholaganj Block under Sohra Civil Sub Division of East Khasi Hills District. The Vice President said that he has inform the fire services but the respond from the fire service stated that since the wild fire broke up far away from the road side they are unable to go.
