Ampati, June 10: World Environment Day was observed with enthusiasm at Boldamgre Deficit School under Zikzak C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills on Friday.
The programme was organised by the Office of the Block Development Officer, Zikzak C&RD Block, and participate by the Education Department and the FKJGP.
The event witnessed the participation of nearly 600 students from four educational institutions, Boldamgre Deficit School, Boldamgre RMSA School, Boldamgre Government Upper Primary School, and Boldamgre Government Lower Primary School along with teachers, community members, and government officials.
Hon’ble MLA of the 54-Mahendraganj (ST) Assembly Constituency, Shri Sanjay A. Sangma, attended the programme as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sangma reaffirmed his commitment to the holistic development of the youth in the region. As a gesture of encouragement, he announced that students from all four participating schools would be taken on an educational excursion to Cherrapunji. He also assured the construction of a basketball court for Boldamgre Deficit School.
The MLA further informed that construction work for a Mini Indoor Stadium at Boldamgre would commence shortly and added that five mini stadiums for the region are expected to be sanctioned in the near future to promote sports and youth development.
As part of the observance, a plantation drive was conducted at the premises of Boldamgre Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), as well as the old and new office premises of the Zikzak C&RD Block where fruit bearing trees were planted. Participants planted saplings and pledged to contribute towards environmental conservation and a greener future.
The programme highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship while also serving as a platform to discuss educational and developmental initiatives aimed at empowering the youth of the region.
