Meghalaya Lokayukta amendment bill 2013 passed

Shillong, April 18: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed the Meghalaya Lokayukta Amendment Bill 2013.

The Bill was introduced in the house by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, with certain amendments wherein clauses 2, 3, 6, 7 & 8 have been omitted. Also in the amendment Clause 11 sub clause 3 was omitted consequential arising from the recommendations made by the Governor to omit clause no. 22.

As the bill was taken up for consideration, members of the opposition questions the validity of the bill after the dissolution of the house.

However, the Speaker of the house, AT Mondal, citing Supreme Court order.

On the issue that of the non incorporation of the amendments submitted by the members of the Opposition, the Speaker pointed out that the as per rule of conduct of business of the house, amendments can be made only on those recommendations made by the Governor.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister assured the house that in the next session the bill would be brought back to the house for further amendment.(SP News)
