Shillong, July 03: As part of the Special Intensive Revision process, the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, Shri. Abhilash Baranwal, LA.S. convened a meeting with the representatives of political parties on 3rd July, 2026 at 10:30 am in the Office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong.
The District Election Officer apprised the members present of the total Enumeration Forms distributed in 15 Assembly Constituencies excluding Sohra Sub-division which stands at 63731 as on 5:00 PM of 2nd July, 2026.
The Chair also informed the members present that Booth Level Agents (BLAs) forms havebeen received from two National Parties and one State Party.
Concerns were raised with regard to some reports, wherein it was alleged that a particularBLO was found distributing enumeration forms from the residence of the former Legislator of 18-West Shillong (GEN) Assembly Constituency.
The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong apprised the members present that the incident has been taken note of by the District Election Officer and the concerned Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), and wherein, spot inspection was conducted by the AERO on 2/7/2026 to ascertain facts on the grounds.
The concerned BLO has been directed to immediately retrieve all the Enumeration forms distributed on the 30th June, 2026, 1 July and 2nd July, 2026. It was also informed that from 3rd July, 2026, the BLO supervisor will personally assist the BLO in distributing the Enumeration forms to eligible electors.
The AERO of the Assembly Constituency will make a daily visit to the Part and personally monitor the distribution of Enumeration Form till the completion of the Enumeration process.
The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong reiterated the primary purpose of the Special Intensive Revision is not to enroll new voters but to enumerate the existing electors as per the electoral roll of 2025 and the legacy roll of 2005, therefore the allegation of enrolment of the new ineligible voters is ill-founded.
The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong in his concluding remarks harped upon the need of all the stakeholders Political Parties and the Dorbar Shnongs to collaborate towards ensuring the successful completion of the SIR process.
