Shillong, June 27: A talk on the relationship between the academia and industry was organised today at NEHU in which the lecture was delivered by Shri Vasant Pandit of Deen Dayal Research Institute, Chitrakoot.
The speaker, Vasant Pandit is a businessman and social worker, who has been working with Late Bharat Ratna Rashtrarishi Nanaji Deshmukh and Deendayal Research Institute since 1978.
He is actively involved in designing and implementing interventions for rural communities in a 50 radius of Chitrakoot since 1998. The interventions are measurable, sustainable and replicable. The lecture delivered by Pandit emphasised on the social work, rural development and benefits of industries in Meghalaya.
In his lecture, Pandit discussed at length about setting up of small-scale industries within the community and how the teachers and researchers of the University can help the community in starting small scale industries within the confinement of their homes.
He spoke about the need and want of the communities wherein the researchers may know the needs of the villagers but the villagers would want something else and that is where the academia can play a role in bridging that gap.
He also emphasised on the need to create the atmosphere between the institutes of higher learning and the villagers which would help the research of the lab reach the market. He said that a research is of no use if it is used only to publish paper and not helping the mass in uplifting their lives.
At the end of the lecture, Prof. Shukla, the Vce-Chancellor of NEHU thank the speaker on accepting the proposal and delivering the speech. Prof. Shukla also emphasised that a collaboration with the speaker will help the University and its fraternity to connect with the people of Meghalaya and contribute to the people of the state by means of social work.
The lecture was attended by the Deans, teachers and scholars of the University. The lecture also saw the active participation of scholars in which they asked questions and suggestions from the speaker.
