Shillong, September 15: It is for the first time in the history of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly that after the debate which lasted for five hours in the floor of the house on the No Confidence Motion move by the opposition against the MUA, Government led by Dr Mukul Sangma was withdrawn by the mover Mr Ardent M Basaiawmoit after the reply of the Chief Minister on all the allegation level against the government.
The Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma took one hour forty minute to reply to all the allegation level by the opposition during the course of debate on the no confidence motion today in the floor of the house to clarified on all point raised by the opposition members as they were participating in the debate.
The Chief Minister started his reply with the words of thank to the opposition member Mr Ardent B Basaiawmoit for bringing this no confidence motion, and the members who participate in the debate. He said “All this issue reflected in the course of debate will help us and will address to it”.
The Chief minister, said that during the debate, the opposition members has touched power sector, Road, Health, Education, Social sector, Tourism, mining, Law and Order, Finance and Land, the chief minister said that “What is good will carry forward” Dr Mukul cited out the central scheme like the IAY and the RGGBY initiate by the UPA government but carried forward by the succession government in the different name but the objective is the same.
The Chief Minister also highlighted about the new scheme that the government is undertaking for the overall economic development of the rural poor, like the IBDPL and many others success stories, he also inform the house about what the government intent to carried forward the development activities for the overall growth of the state.
On the financial stability, the Chief Minister said “Yes we have financial constrain, and this will continued this challenges, but we have not overshoot, we are still with the parameter”. On the mining issue he said the government is not sitting tide, but it has worked hard on this regard. After he has completed his reply, on all points raise by the opposition the Chief Minister request the mover of the motion to withdraw the no confidence motion.
The mover of the no confidence motion Mr Ardent M Basaiawmoit of the HSPDP, withdraw the No Confidence motion after the chief minister has reply to all point raised by the opposition members.The speaker put before the house if leave is granted to withdraw the no confidence motion, and the house agreed and the no confidence motion was withdraw.
The Members from the opposition who supported the no confidence motion and took part in the debate of the No Confidence motion, apart from the mover are, James K Sangma of the NPP, Nihim D Shira from the NPP, Dr Donkupar Roy UDP who is also the leader of the opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr Paul Lyngdoh UDP and Dr Jemino Mawthoh UDP.
From the treasury bench who opposed the no confidence motion, are Mr RV Lyngdoh, Smti Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mr Prestone Tynsong, Mr Zenith M Sangma all are minister and the former chief minister Dr DD Lapang.
