Tura, December 22: Today morning, angry mob consisting of NGOs including women group gathered at SBI Baghmara Branch of South Garo Hills District attempted to manhandle the Branch Manager and locked the gates of the bank and refused to let anyone in or out of the bank.
The people of that area were protesting against non-availability of small denomination notes, with the SBI bank low cash holding and dispersal of Rs. 2,000/- notes only.
In another incident the public of Chokpot area of South Garo Hills District pelted stones at Chokpot Apex Bank in protest against non-availability of cash. Later the crowd was dispersed and the Police took control of the situation. However, transaction at SBI Chokpot was normal.
