Shillong, May 08: The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre of IIM Shillong is organising a five-day sponsored residential Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on General Management and Research Methodology from May 8 to May 12, 2023, for the faculty members of higher education institutions in the North Eastern Region (NER).
The programme aims to “train the trainers” and equip them with the necessary skills to teach and disseminate knowledge effectively. The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp at the Umsawli campus.
During the inaugural session, Prof. D. P. Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, emphasised the importance of being a good teacher and researcher. He stressed that as a faculty member, one must have two responsibilities: to be a good teacher and to be a good researcher.
He also highlighted the responsibility of a teacher to cater to the learning needs of all students, including slow learners, and the importance of evaluating oneself to create a fair and transparent evaluation process for students.
Prof. Goyal urged all faculty participants to take full advantage of the 5-day residential session and learn how to design a curriculum, make a pedagogy of teaching, and have an enriching experience.
He also emphasised the importance of creating a good culture, which is crucial for knowledge sharing and transformation. Teaching is a noble profession, and a teacher’s selfless contribution to the nation is invaluable.
The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis is envisioned as a proactive embodiment of the late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s philosophy of leveraging knowledge, technology, and humanism for achieving sustainable development while ensuring a just and equitable social order.
The FDP witnessed enrolment by 30 faculties as participants from various institutions namely IIMC, Aizawl,Tripura Institute of Paramedical Science, Manipur University of Culture, Cotton University, Guwahati, Centre for Community Medicine, AIIMS Delhi, NEHU, Assam University to name a few.
Such programmes will help in enhancing their skills and knowledge and empower them to be better teachers and researchers, ultimately contributing to the development of the North East region and the nation.
