Dr Mukul clarified,names suggested by the GNLA ha sent to the GOI

Tura, March 28: Meghalaya chief minister, Mukul Sangma today clarified
on a release of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on the list
of mediators for peace talks.

The outfit had yesterday warned the Congress party that if the
government fails to clarify on the list of mediators, which has been
recommended to the ministry of home affairs, the outfit will not allow
them to campaign in Garo hills.

Mukul asserted that government never lies and have accordingly
forwarded names of three persons for center’s approval to act as a
mediator between the outfit and the government. He said that the

Government is committed to resolve matters relating to peace talks.

The outfit was of the view that the government is fooling the people
of Garo hills by giving out false assurance. He said, “We have
forwarded the names suggested by the outfit to the centre, we are
waiting for an approval”.

The outfit had released a statement yesterday, quoting Joint Secretary
(North East) in the ministry of home affairs, Shambu Singh saying that
centre has not received any names for mediators.

The outfit had warned the Congress party to not hold any campaign
meetings within Garo hills, unless and until they clarify their stand
on the matter.

Political secretary of the outfit, Bikdot Marak said, “Nobody will be
allowed to campaign for the Congress party, if Mukul Sangma does not
issue any clarification”.

The statement of the outfit also stated, “The direction of the GNLA
will remain in force and effective from the date of the release. The
area commanders have been instructed to shoot at legs with three
bullets for violation of the circular”.(SP News)
