Shillong, Feb 24: It is with great pleasure to announce that Dr. Nitin Sahai, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, has been selected for the prestigious Long Term ICMR-DHR International Fellowship for Young Indian Biomedical Scientists 2022-23.
Dr. Sahai will be visiting the Department of Public Health Medicine, Medical School, University of Pecs, Hungary for a period of one year.It is a great honor for Dr. Sahai to be one of the only 27 selected candidates from India and the only one from the North East region.
This fellowship is a testament to his excellent work in the field of Biomedical Engineering and his dedication to making a significant contribution to the field.
North Eastern Hill University, Shillong is very proud of Dr. Sahai’s achievement and believe that his visit to the University of Pecs in Hungary will provide him with an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and expertise in the field of biomedical engineering. The fellowship was sponsored by Indian Council of Medical Research and Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India. One of the major mandates of ICMR and DHR is to augment capacity strengthening of Indian scientists.
This international fellowship programme is intended to create a pool of talented health research personnel by facilitating advanced training and exposure to the latest advancements in knowledge through interaction with the international scientists in their respective field of work.
The objective of the long-term fellowship is to learn new techniques, understand research methodology, engage in some meaningful research and get acquainted with the international scientific environment.
Dr. Sahai’s research during this fellowship will be centered around 3D printing, an emerging technology that involves designing and developing patient-specific orthotics, prosthetics, and other tissues, organs.
He will receive training on advanced technology and instruments like 3D printing, 3D design and simulation, prototype production, material testing and development, and 3D scanning.
The fellowship will provide Dr. Sahai with the opportunity to gain expertise in the advanced development of patient-specific orthotic and prosthetic devices using 3D printing technology. This will undoubtedly benefit his research at North Eastern Hill University and enhance his ability to contribute to the field of biomedical engineering.
Dr. Sahai has been serving North Eastern Hill University for the last 10 years and has organized various workshops/seminars and published several journal papers of international repute in the area of 3D printing for medical applications.
