Shillong, September 12: The home minister of Meghalaya Mr HDR Lyngdoh on his reply to the special motion move by the HSPDP MLA Mr Ardent Basaiawmoit on drugs that has ruined many families in the state, said that the government is taking all possible steps to tackle drugs trafficking in the state.
The government also concern about the drugs abuse and drugs trafficking in the state, the police have tried it best nap thus people who are involved in drugs trafficking. The police have arrested many drugs user and drugs paddlers.
The arrested that was made by the police in the last four years, are 32 people in 2013, 27 in 2014, 31 in 2015 and till July 2016 the police have arrested 22 people. Out of this 80 percent are chargesheeted. The government is aware of the various reports on drugs abuses.
The home minister said that all this drugs come from Myanmar, through Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram, earlier shillong is known as the transit point, but today it has become user end point. The government is strictly following the Narcotic Drugs and, Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and rules frame by the state government.
To tackle this problems more effectively the government has involved, Social welfare department, Excise Department, and the customs of the central government. The police have set up special cell in the entire District. The home Minister said that, people need to be Virgil on have to tackle these problems.
While bring this special motion on drugs abused the MLA from Nongkrem Mr Ardent Basaiawmoit, said that the use of drugs in the state is rampant , it has ruin many families , police have arrested many drugs peddlers but they have not nap the king pin who are running drugs in the state.
Others MLA who participate in this debate are, Paul Lyngdoh, Jemino Mawthoh, of the UDP, James K Sangma of the NPP and John leslee Sangma.
