Shillong, July 31: The HSPDP State Youth Wing strongly condemns the reported use of tear gas against peaceful citizens, including women and children, during the protest at Daistong, East Jaintia Hills.
It is deeply concerning to witness innocent civilians, especially a mother and her child, allegedly suffering after being exposed to tear gas while exercising their democratic right to express their concerns. Such incidents raise serious questions about the protection of citizens’ rights and the use of force in handling peaceful protests.
The HSPDP State Youth Wing appeals to the Government of Meghalaya to immediately take cognizance of this incident and order an independent, fair, and transparent inquiry into the events that unfolded. If any excessive or unjustified use of force is established, those responsible must be held accountable in accordance with the law.
The Youth Wing urge the Government to prioritize dialogue over confrontation. The voices of the people deserve to be heard with respect and sincerity. Development and public welfare can only move forward when there is trust, consultation, and the protection of democratic rights.
They appeal to all concerned authorities to ensure that women, children, and elderly citizens are never placed in situations where their safety and well-being are at risk during public demonstrations.
At the same time, we call upon all citizens and protesters to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law while continuing to express their concerns through peaceful and democratic means.
The HSPDP State Youth Wing stands in solidarity with the people and reaffirms its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of every citizen of Meghalaya, said Mr. karbarlang Syiemlieh President and Pynshai Dkhar Secretary of the HSPDP Youth Wing in the press statement.
