Hundreds of ASHA workers hold public rally, sent memo to CM on 6 point charter of demand

Shillong, May 09: The ASAHA workers of Meghalaya today hold public rally in the state capital, Shillong City demanding that the state government should recognized them as Government employees.

In the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister Government of Meghalaya Dr Mukul Sangma, they have stated that the ASHA Workers and Fecilators plays a major role in reaching the benefit of various health scheme to the ruler population of the State of Meghalaya.

The  ASHA Workers and Fecilators mostly hail from economically disadvantage families are facing hardship while performing self less duties for the improvement of mother and child care under various State health Programme and Central Scheme etc.

In order to be able to take care of others, health of the workers needs proper attention of the concern authorities. It is needless to state that the remuneration paid to the ASHA Workers and Fecilators are too meager to sustain themselves.

The six point charter of demand submitted by the ASHA to the chief minister, that the state government should  increase the budget allegation for the Health Center and providing a fixed allocation of monthly payment to the ASHA Workers and Fecilators.

The Government should provide universal social security coverage like provide Provident Fund an Employees Insurance Scheme (ESI ), pension etc. The Government should bring them under the umbrella of various other Social Security Scheme.

In order to help them in performing their duties the urged on the state Government to provide them  travelling allowances for covering distant places for the purpose of implementing the Scheme. They seek maternity leave to eligible ASHA Workers and Fecilators. Any incentive and benefits  from both Central and State  which ASHA workers in other parts of the Country should also be applicable and implemented in our State too and mountain uniformity amongst all ASHA workers.

The Public rally started from the CPI office from Thana Road where more than 800 ASHA workers from different parts of the state participate in this rally under the banner of Meghalaya Facilatator Workers Union (MFU).
